Precipitación congelada en forma de cristales de hielo de color blanco o transparente en el complejo de forma hexagonal ramificada. Con mayor frecuencia, cae de las nubes estratiformes, pero puede caer como nieve de las cumuliformes. Aparece generalmente agrupados en copos de nieve. Se reporta como "SN" en la observación y en el METAR.
