One of a pair of short lines drawn at the opposite edges of a map and perpendicular to the edges, indicating that the line of a grid extends between these marks. In other words, grid ticks are those parts of a grid left after most of each line between the edges of the map has been removed. They are usually used when another system of lines such as a graticule is to be shown in full on the map.
